La Soufrière

La Soufrière, nicknamed "the old lady", is an active volcano in the Guadeloupe National Park that towers over Basse-Terre. It is the only active volcano on the island, currently in a state of eruptive rest. It is part of a volcanic group made up of the Carmichaël, the Nez Cassé, l'Échelle, the Citerne and la Madeleine volcanoes. It is one of the nine active volcanoes of the Lesser Antilles.

When the weather allows, the summit of the Soufrière offers a view over an exceptional landscape that is well worth the walk.
